Job Description

The Maine Children’s Trust (MCT) is seeking an Executive Director to assume the overall leadership and management of the organization.  This position will lead the organization to fulfill its mission and statutory responsibility to coordinate efforts statewide in Maine to prevent child abuse and neglect before it occurs.  This position reports to the Executive Committee of the MCT Board of Directors.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Planning, guiding and implementing strategies statewide that will reduce child abuse and neglect
  • The management of all finances of the organization, including budgeting, financial planning, the maintenance of accurate records, and fund development
  • The employment and management of a high performing senior management team that will effectively lead the work of the Trust
  • The execution and management of contracts and agreements necessary to accomplish the goals of the organization
  • Guiding activities that will increase public awareness about the prevention of child abuse and neglect and MCT
  • Advocacy for programs and services that reduce the risk of child abuse or neglect
  • Management of a grant process to award and evaluate grants to community organizations providing child abuse prevention programming throughout Maine

This is a full time, salaried position based at the MCT offices in the Augusta area.  Statewide travel and out of state travel may be required.

Experience and Skill Requirements:

  • Over ten years related experience and/or training in organizational management and leadership; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced knowledge of business and management principals involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques and coordination of organizational activities
  • Over five years of experience in supervising individuals and teams, setting performance goals and empowering overall employee success
  • Excellent organizational development and personnel management skills
  • Visionary, trustworthy, diplomatic, understanding and innovative with high energy level
  • Proven leadership skills that are effective in engaging partners and collaborators in initiatives
  • Ability to solve problems and act effectively and efficiently under pressure
  • Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with internal and external contacts with diplomacy, tact and discretion

Education Requirements:  A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Strategy or appropriate field is required, a Master’s Degree is preferred.
