Job Description


Back Cove Yachts in Rockland, ME is expanding its technical team with an additional Product Engineer, who will report directly to the Engineering Manager. The Product Engineer will provide engineering support for our 6 different yacht models and assist with the development of future models using sound engineering principles to regularly resolve complex production and pre-production challenges.


  • Provide engineering support to fast-pace production environment in order to maintain product assembly and build schedule.
  • Engineer all aspects of new builds including fiberglass laminated parts, hull structure, propulsion systems, electrical and mechanical systems, design and source custom parts, etc.
  • Transition new model design into existing production system; working directly with production associates to train and support on new construction details.
  • Develop and modify engineering documentation and create production change notices.
  • Initiate/implement production floor process improvements and fixtures.
  • Verify adherence to ISO, CE, USCG, NMMA, ABYC and ABS standards and certifications.
  • Field service and customer service of existing boats as required.
  • Involvement in sea trials and product/systems evaluation and testing.


  • Exemplary problem solving and corrective action implementation.
  • Familiarity with ISO, CE, USCG, NMMA, ABYC and ABS Standards and Certifications.
  • Fluency in 2D and 3D CAD modeling environments.
  • Comprehensive understanding of electrical and mechanical marine systems and equipment.
  • Natural motivation to deliver quality, reliable results.
  • Excel at team oriented projects and inter-department support.
  • Strong communication and organization skills.


  • Bachelor’s degree or appropriate diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Yacht Design.
  • Experience with FRP composite construction materials and processes.
  • Experience with Rhino, AutoCAD and SolidEdge CAD software.
  • 3-5 years relevant experience.
