Job Description


The Shift Leader performs duties that consistently and safely enhance the customer experience and profitability of the operation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Enhance the customer experience by executing six steps of the customer promise.

Complies with all legal and regulatory requirements including but not limited: the sale of alcohol and tobacco, lottery, petroleum products, food safety, etc.

Performs all aspect of cashiering to include but limited to: handling cash, making changes, processing credit cards, selling lottery, handling pre-paids, cashing checks, processing EBT, etc. Tasks must be performed in a trustworthy manner.

Performs looping, cleaning and stocking and other daily duties per tasks list.

May perform deli duties.

Pre-screening of applicants.

Promptly notify management of customer service, security, and safety or inventory issues.

Perform all duties in compliance to the Cash Handling SOPs and other company expectations.

Shift Leader duties include: overseeing operation of assigned shifts to include employee performance, customer service and all aspects of safety and security, paperwork process requirements, and other duties/projects as assigned.

Performs cashiering and other clerical duties to relieve subordinates during peak work periods.

Totals and summarizes funds received, endorses checks, and prepares bank deposit slip.

Assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.

Directly supervises 1-3 employees in the Convenience Retailing. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work, and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
