POSITION: Service Technician

Department: Service

Supervisor: Service manager

Pay rate: $16 to $20 per hour, commensurate with experience

The Valley Company is in search of an enthusiastic and self-motivated Service Technician who is committed to safety and excellence.


The Valley Company is a growing hydraulic, electric, mechanical repair and fabrication company based out of Chelsea, Maine. We service and install recycling and industrial equipment as well as do some contracting work primarily in Maine and New Hampshire.  Our customers include many major retail chains, municipalities and industrial locations.

Job Description:

Our service technicians perform preventive maintenance, repairs and installations of a variety of equipment including, but not limited to compactors, balers, conveyor belts, impact doors, overhead doors, fencing, guardrails, meat tables and other system and component parts.


  • Follow all Valley Company safety rules, policies and regulations as well as those of our customers, OHSA and any other governing body at all worksite
  • Perform repairs on customer’s equipment in the field
  • Work without direct supervision to troubleshoot and repair as needed
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment
  • Install and test new equipment at customer’s locations and our shop
  • Weekly inspection of service truck
  • Perform other similar duties as required or requested by supervisor


On most days you will be dispatched for the days work early morning or the night before. You will leave from your home and drive directly to the worksite.  After finishing your jobs (most technicians are dispatched to multiple locations each day) you will return home with the service truck. 

Most jobs are finished on the same day or will require a separate return trip to complete the repairs. Installations and major repairs at remote sites at times require overnight stays. 

On call rotation to cover weekend service which comes with a stipend in addition to wages.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Associates Degree or equivalent from college or technical school, or combination of education and experience is a plus.


  • Basic understanding of machinery
  • Violation-free Maine driver’s license, class B a plus
  • Read and understand policies, procedure manuals, operating and maintenance instructions
  • Proficiency with using hand and power tools


  • Mechanical, electrical and hydraulic experience
  • Diagnostic abilities
  • Capable of reading plans, schematics, drawings
  • Cutting and welding
  • Effective communication
  • Tech savvy in phone usage for pictures, email and texting


One-year plus related experience and/or training on machine maintenance and repair, mechanics, or similar experience.
