College of the Atlantic is seeking a full-time staff person whose primary role is to advise and support a significant population of international college students. College of the Atlantic is a small, private, mission-driven institution with a focus in human ecology. Approximately 25% of our students come from countries other than the United States and are studying here in F-1 status.
The Coordinator of International Student Services needs to have well-developed interpersonal communication skills and a demonstrated capacity to work with people from a wide range of cultural backgrounds. Given that this is a one-person office (operating within the Student Life Team), the successful candidate must possess the ability to work independently and to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with a high attention to detail. Direct experience with the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and/or immigration regulations pertaining to F-1 status is required. Previous experience with college students and personal experience living/working in an international context are strongly preferred. Bachelor’s Degree required. Preference will be given to candidates with significant experience in international education. As required by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, applicants must be either citizens or lawful permanent residents of the United States.
Responsibilities include: implementing programs to help students transition to and from the United States and College of the Atlantic; serving as liaison to the Davis United World College Scholars Program; functioning as Principal Designated School Official (PDSO) for the Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS); developing procedures for institutional compliance with federal immigration regulations and those for student maintenance of F-1 status; advising students with various issues; and other responsibilities as assigned. Some evening and weekend work is required including some shared on-call responsibility. This position reports to the Dean of Student Life. The successful candidate will ideally begin as soon as possible but the timeline is flexible.
