General Summary:
Executive leader of broker appointing & compensation with responsibility for delivering superior service to brokers receiving compensation from Unum. Manages an organization of 46 people.
-Broker Compensation operational services include broker appointing, contracting and compensation as well as broker contact centers for all Unum US companies and lines of business.
-Designs, develops and implements strategic initiatives that improve productivity, efficiency and service levels.
-Develops service solutions in partnership with field service and sales professionals to meet diverse marketplace service delivery requirements with a major focus on compliance with state regulations.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Overall operational responsibility for design and delivery of quality compensation services to brokers, plan administrators and clients for all products, services and functions.
Assures all brokers submitting business are properly licensed and appointed with Unum insuring companies.
Assures Unum companies are in full compliance with all state regulations regarding licensing, appointing and compensation of brokers.
Represent Unum's response to all Market Conduct Examinations relating to Broker Compensation Services accountabilities.
Collaborate with field sales, service and corporate senior leadership to identify, develop and implement strategic initiatives (including technology solutions) that improve productivity, efficiency, consistency and service quality in support of unique marketplace requirements.
Develop strong and collaborative partnerships across the organization and enterprise to positively influence business retention and sales revenue.
Implement continuous improvement and efficiency initiatives within the organization meeting all quality delivery service goals.
Drive profitable business growth through consistent high quality service delivery of broker appointments and compensation and other administrative services.
Accountable for financial integrity and appropriate allocation of broker compensation and group, individual and VB premiums under management through effective accounting processes, premium collection, debt recovery and administration.
Ensure effective operational planning & implementation of broker compensation services.
May perform other duties as assigned.
Job Specifications
Undergraduate degree required; graduate degree preferred
Minimum of eight years experience required in operational management in the insurance industry.
Demonstrated ability to lead and manage operations of a medium size organization.
In-depth knowledge of insurance industry operations, products and services
Strong collaboration skills; excellent negotiation and facilitation skills
Excellent communication and executive presentation skills
Strong customer service and advocacy skills
Demonstrated leadership and staff development skills
Proven ability to think strategically and act tactically

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$114,100.00-$215,700.00
Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
