Job Summary:
POC is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will assist in the design, development, testing and transfer to manufacturing of imaging systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional to grow and develop their skills in a supportive and innovative environment.
Please Note: This position can be based in either the POCI Gardner, MA or Portland, ME office. This is not a remote position, but some flexibility may be available for occasional remote work, on an as-needed basis.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the design and development of imaging systems, complex lens assemblies, mechanical camera, assemblies.
- Design fixtures and assembly aids to support the manufacture of imaging systems.
- Create and modify 3D CAD models and engineering drawings.
- Generate test protocols and reports, manufacturing work instructions, and other documentation relation to product development.
- Document design processes and maintain accurate records.
- Conduct feasibility studies and design verification testing.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams; optical, electrical, and manufacturing engineers, supply chain, quality assurance, and manufacturing.
- Ensure compliance with FDA, ISO 13485, and other relevant regulations.
- Support the troubleshooting and resolution of design and manufacturing issues.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, ProE).
- Basic understanding of GD&T
- Basic understanding of materials science; thermal expansion, stress and strain, failure modes
- Basic understanding of manufacturing processes; machining operations, injection molding, lens forming, stamping
- Basic understanding of mechanical testing including specification of test equipment, test set-up, measurement system analysis.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Knowledge of FDA and ISO 13485 regulations is a plus.
Desired Skills
- Experience with design and integration of positioning systems; servos, positioning systems, piezoelectric devices, position feedback devices.
- Experience with implementing and integration of testing data acquisition and analysis.
- Familiarity with statistical analysis.
Education
- BS, Technical Degree or Certificate Program in a related field and minimum 1 year relevant experience (including internships), preferably in the medical device, defense, or other regulated industry.
