The Jackson Laboratory is seeking a Research Assistant I (RAI) l based in Bar Harbor, Maine.
The focus of the lab is to understand how nerve-immune cell interactions regulate the regenerative capacity of the mouse digit tip. The overarching question is why regeneration is restricted in humans and mice compared to salamanders that can regenerate whole organs and limbs.
The RA I works under direct supervision of Dr. Godwin and other postdoc/trainees in the lab. The RAI will be primarily responsible for maintaining our mouse colony, performing tissue harvesting, regeneration assays, collecting and analyzing 3D Micro-CT images and 2D microscopy images of mouse digits, and growth measurement analysis with several software packages.
Additional duties:
- Project planning and experimental design
- Conducting immunofluorescence histology, data collection and analysis
- Assisting in the preparation of publications.
There are additional opportunities for taking on additional, more advanced tasks (e.g., molecular techniques) and for advancement within the lab.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or related discipline OR 1-3 years of related experience
- Ability to work well in a highly collaborative environment and be willing and eager to participate in lab meetings
