Pay rate: ranges between $20.50-$22.50 hourly
The Opportunity Alliance is seeking a full-time Family Visitor(s) to join our Maine Families of Greater Portland team!
Maine Families is grounded in a prevention approach and in the establishment of trusting relationships with parents and caregivers raising children under 3. Through regularly scheduled visits, Family Visitors use an evidence-based model to promote positive parent-child interaction, build parenting skills and knowledge around child development, and support whole family wellbeing from the start. Responsibilities:
- Partner with parents and caregivers in their homes to create and make progress toward family goals
- Help families understand their child’s development and support the parent-child relationship
- Provide developmental screenings and share parent-child activities
- Connect families to community resources through referrals.
- Plan and provide play groups and other connection-based events for families
- Promote positive child health and developmental outcomes
The Family Visitor role will ensure the daily delivery of quality services for parents, caregivers, and children in accordance with Maine Families Standards of Practice, Maine Families policies and procedures, Parents As Teachers Curriculum, and the Touchpoints model as well as NASW and NAEYC Codes of Ethical Conducts.
Schedule: This is a full-time, 40 hours/week position. There is the ability to have a flexible schedule Monday to Friday with some evenings required.
Location: Based out of our South Portland office. Serving Greater Portland. This is a hybrid position doing both virtual and in-person work.
Qualifications:
- Education with a Bachelor’s degree in human services, Early Childhood Education, or related field required
- A minimum of one year of paid experience working with young children (ages zero through five years) and families.
- Experience working in a home-based setting preferred.
- Must be willing to work both independently and as part of a team
- Favor will be given to candidates that can speak multiple languages with fluency in French, Lingala, Spanish or Portuguese.
- The ability to speak multiple languages with fluency in French, Lingala, Spanish, or Portuguese a plus.
- Maine Families Credentialing Policy requires that the selection of direct service staff will include consideration of their:
- Personal characteristics (i.e., non-judgmental, empathetic, able to establish a trusting relationship, acceptance of individual differences, etc.).
- Knowledge of infant and child development and parent-child attachment.
- Knowledge of maternal-infant health and dynamics of child abuse and neglect.
- Knowledge of best practices in parenting education and support.
- Experience and willingness to work with culturally diverse populations.
- Experience working in a home-based setting preferred.
- Staff will have one year under a provisional Maine Families Family Visitor certificate to complete required trainings for the Maine Families Credentialing Policy and become a Certified Maine Families Family Visitor.
- Staff must attend all other required trainings, maintain a professional development plan, and attain 18 hours of professional development annually.
- Contracts that have Rider D: Staff must be able to successfully pass a criminal background, child protective service check, and sex offender check.
- Staff must not be on the state or federal suspension and disbarment list.
- Staff must be able to exert moderate physical effort with occasional standing, walking, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, typing, and lifting or carrying small children or material weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Driving may be necessary to attend meetings and trainings and for the occasional need to meet with clients offsite and within the program service area. This may include transportation of clients or driving to agency location to complete work. A good driving record is required.
