Position Overview
The Opportunity Alliance is seeking a full-time Crisis Police Liaison to join our Mobile Crisis Response Program, supporting the Portland area. The Police Liaison staff works primarily under the agreement between The Opportunity Alliance and the Bridgton Police Department, providing immediate intervention as identified and appropriate to the provision of crisis services. This individual supports the police department by co-responding with officers to calls for service to stabilize individuals experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis.

Our Ideal Candidate
- Has adult mental healthcare experience (experience with crisis intervention, psychiatric triage and advocacy preferred)
- Has a belief that recovery is possible and maintains agency perspectives of recovery and treatment that is guided by the needs of the client.
- Demonstrated ability to respond to major incidents and psychiatric trauma
- Demonstrated computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, E-mail, and the Internet required.
- Ability to work across differing systems, within a team framework, which encompass different rules, governing policies and leadership styles across cultural perspectives required.
- Driving may be necessary to attend meetings/trainings and for the occasional need to meet with clients offsite and within the program service area. This may include transportation of clients or driving to agency locations to complete work. A good driving record is required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Science, Criminology, or equivalently related discipline.
- MHRT-CSP (crisis services provider) certification or ability to achieve within 30 days of employment required.
- Ability to pass a criminal background, child protective service, and sex offender check.
- Must not be on the state or federal suspension and debarment list.
- Must be able to meet all CCCR and Police Department standards and qualifications as required.
About the Law Enforcement Liaison, Crisis Intervention position
- The Law Enforcement Liaison, Crisis Intervention position provides onsite crisis assessment, intervention planning, and risk determination for harm to self or others and general mental health consultations as needed.
- Coordinates with area Police Departments to aid directly or to coordinate with the local mobile crisis response regarding emergency psychiatric needs and short-term follow-up.
- Provides crisis services within the community, coordinates with local service providers in a number of settings including schools and healthcare facilities.
- Engages in community outreach and education around general crisis work, substance use, and mental health related issues.
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/week position. Set schedule will be determined by the program. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
Location: Maine office is located in South Portland, this position serves the Lake Region and will based out of Bridgton, ME.
- Work is done in person (in the office and, or community) with potential for some remote work.
