Do you enjoy working with youth and their families? Does working as part of a dynamic team of blindness professionals sound interesting to you? If so, our Blindness Rehabilitation Specialist/Transition Consultant (BLRS/TC) may be very well suited to your interests and strengths.
 
The role of the BLRS/TC is to provide that support for individuals with blindness and visual impairment from birth to age 24 and their families. The BLRS/TC offers consultation, service coordination, advocacy, and connection to resources as the individual and their support teams explore and prepare for future life and employment goals. While the scope of the position is birth-24, the BLRS/TC works most closely with middle school and transition age students.

Primary responsibilities include:  

  • Coordinates with Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVI) and Orientation and Mobility Specialists (O&M) and Vision Rehabilitation Therapists (VRT) in order to provide blindness rehabilitation and Expanded Core Curriculum activities.
  • Direct vocational rehabilitation services for transition students and provides ongoing consultation with VR counselors in order to ensure seamless services between educational and vocational programming.
  • Provides services for potentially eligible, Pre-employment transition services, and transition services for youth with blindness and visually impairments as outlined in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA)
  • Coordinates and advocates for accommodations for education and rehabilitation programing in early childhood, public schools K-12, and/or schools for the blind; and post-secondary programming or employment.
  • Schedules team meetings, notifies appropriate personnel, and coordinates team members in order to discuss clients’ needs and provide input into the Individual Education Plan (IEP).
     

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a field related to vocational rehabilitation and 2 years of experience demonstrating knowledges and abilities in assisting individuals with disabilities, employers and other stakeholders with their employment and workforce needs.

Preference will be given to those applicants:

Experience with blindness or low vision. CRC preferred.
