Purpose:

The Maine Department of Education is seeking a new member for our Educator Excellence Team!  This role is built to provide administrative support for Department programming related to educator recruitment and workforce issues, teacher mentorship and professional growth, and recognition for outstanding educators in the field.  As part of the Office of Higher Education & Educator Support Services, the Educator Excellence team also works closely with our certification and higher education staff to enact a broad set of programs for Maine educators, the institutions of higher education that train them, and the PK-12 schools they serve.

 The position exists to provide administrative support to assist the Educator Excellence Team succeed in its efforts to develop and support a strong educator workforce via various researched strategies (designed with the focus on achieving best results in education delivery to Maine's youth); as well, to provide thorough educator support services -- which also includes providing ancillary support to the Certification - Higher Education - Educator Effectiveness - Adult Education Teams, when required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Administrative support skills, including use of Microsoft Office products.
  • Capacity to juggle multiple, frequently changing priorities, while also keeping in tune with various projects' checklists.
  • General knowledge of state government procurement procedures and/or public school facilitation policies and procedures.
  • Interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with both internal Department partners and external members of the public education field.
  • Ability to visualize how to best organize data sets to produce effective reports and graphics.
  • Strong attention to detail and adherence to established systems. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Training, education, or experience in office and administrative support work that demonstrates 1) competency in applying a proficient knowledge of modern office practices to perform advanced administrative support tasks requiring specialized skills, and 2) the ability to use independent judgment, initiative, and discretion to make determinations on varied matters. All positions in this classification assume the qualifications of: Office Assistant IOffice Assistant IIOffice Associate I and Office Associate II.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with administrative support experience in the public sector, PK-12 education, or higher education and/or a working knowledge of procurement procedures, especially related to state government.
