The External Communications Specialist is responsible for supporting and driving a comprehensive communications and public relations strategy to advance and protect the Hannaford brand. The specialist is responsible for executing the strategy under the direction of the Manager External Communications. Includes writing, editing and other day-to-day activities supporting internal business functions and thought partnership. In doing so, the specialist is a steward of the brand’s strong reputation while fostering broader awareness of activities and commitments with our associates, customers, and community partners. The specialist collaborates with many internal stakeholders and many external vendors and stakeholders to ensure a cohesive message is received by our associates, customers and community partners, which includes key media across Hannaford’s marketplace.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops and executes comprehensive public relations and media outreach strategies for assigned programs
- Coordinates with PR agency of record, internal communications team, internal marketing partners and global stakeholders to bring stories to life
- Drafts press releases, statements, talking points, and editorial content as needed
- Works directly with stakeholders, as needed, to formulate responses to media, customer care, and social media inquiries and comments
- Supports the management of the work of outside suppliers, community partners, and agencies, as needed, to effectively complete PR projects (examples: global reporting, annual ESG report, event management support, etc.)
- Represents the company at community and media events
- Leads the creation of and maintenance of key media assets, databases and department resources
- Executes regular media monitoring and develops coverage reporting for internal stakeholders and senior leadership
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree
- 3-5 years’ experience in Communications, Journalism, or Public Relations
Preferred:
- Experience within a retail, grocery, or CPG organization
Skills and Abilities:
- Expert written and oral communication skills.
- Strong relationships with the media and track record of success with media placements.
- Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Prudent discretion and judgement in handling sensitive and confidential information.
The Salary Range for this Position is $72,880 - $109,320.
