Join our vibrant team and make a difference in the lives of academically low-performing students in grades Pre-K through 5th! In this part-time role, you will play a key role in delivering engaging Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) curriculum and enrichment activities. Our program combines hands-on engineering challenges with literacy, math, and social-emotional learning to foster essential skills like academic confidence, initiative, problem-solving, communication, and perseverance.
You will oversee a 4-day/week program, ensuring that students receive a rich and supportive learning experience. Collaboration with families, students, and a small team of teachers and volunteers will be essential to create a safe and dynamic environment that promotes growth and learning.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with directors and school staff to support student enrollment and registration.
- Lead the daily implementation and instruction of the STEAM curriculum and enrichment activities, guided by site directors.
- Communicate with parents, volunteers, and school staff about student participation, behavior, progress, and events.
- Maintain a structured, organized, and safe learning environment for students and staff.
- Build positive relationships with students, encouraging and supporting them in personal, social, and academic areas.
- Address student behavior challenges as needed and utilize best practices to ensure consistent attendance.
- Keep accurate records of attendance, meal counts, activities, and other relevant data.
- Assist in developing enrichment activities, schedules, and curriculum.
- Supervise and support a team of teachers, teaching assistants, and volunteers.
- Conduct weekly team meetings to discuss program needs, reflections, and goals for improvement.
- Be responsive to communication from students, families, and team members, and manage email and voicemail effectively.
- Help coordinate family and public events, presentations, and special guest activities.
- Uphold professional standards, including online safety and learning guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications
- State Teaching Certification for Maine.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in an educational setting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
Work Experience & Skills
- At least 3 years of teaching experience with elementary-aged students.
- Minimum 1 year of supervisory or leadership experience.
- Experience working with diverse communities and low-performing populations is preferred; experience with English Language Learners is a plus.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
- Proficiency with various technologies, including Microsoft Outlook, Slack, Google Drive Suite, Zoom, and others.
- Experience with remote or blended academic programs is preferred.
- Flexibility, creativity in problem-solving, and a growth mindset.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
