The City of Bangor, Maine Fire Department is accepting applications to fill immediate openings for Firefighter positions. The Bangor Fire Department is the second largest professional fire department in the State of Maine, protecting a city of 31,000 that is rich in history and is the commercial and social center of Northern, Central, and Eastern Maine. 88 personnel work an attractive schedule of 1 day on, 1 day off, 1 day on, 5 days off with no forced overtime or residency requirement.
In addition to providing fire protection and emergency medical services, Bangor Fire provides a variety of other response/services including a Heavy Rescue that provides technical rescue capabilities within the region, a marine response with 2 boats including the only fire boat in the region, opportunities to serve on the Police Department’s Special Response Team, and EMS support to large events at the Maine Savings Amphitheater and the Cross Insurance Center. Pay & Benefit Highlight
Bangor firefighters work an attractive two (2) 24 hour shifts a week and have a highly competitive wage package. Retirement options include Maine Public Employees Retirement System plan 3C (2/3rd of average final compensation after 25 years with no age minimum), or an ICMA-RC 401(a). Lateral transfer pay and vacation accumulation available for candidates with current career Fire/EMS service up to 6 years’ experience.
This position’s full salary range is $55,539.12-$72,399.60 plus educational incentives.
Minimum Requirements
Requirements include the following: possession and maintenance of a valid driver’s license and high school diploma or equivalent. Department may provide EMT-Basic training for select candidates who do not currently have an EMS license. Applicants will undergo an extensive evaluation including written fire exam and a Bangor Fire Department physical ability test. Applicants who present a valid (within last 6 months) IAFF/IAFC Candidate Physical Ability Test card will be excused from physical ability test. Successful applicants will be required to pass a background check and psychological evaluation.
