The Bailey Library is in need of a full-time Adult Services Librarian to work in our busy lakeside library. The library is a dynamic community center located in the summer resort town of Winthrop, situated between two beautiful lakes in a downtown setting, halfway between the service centers of Augusta and Lewiston.
In this position we will look to you to help create a wonderful and transformative library experience for the Winthrop community, from individual customers and interest groups to local organizations and small businesses.
The role of this position is to encourage and foster lifelong library users and supporters by sharing expertise and innovative ideas, and shaping library services and programs offered to the Winthrop community. The ideal candidate must be a natural communicator, knowledgeable about all aspects of the library, and admired for his/her ability to inspire enthusiasm among patrons. Candidates must have a deep knowledge of popular reading materials and be experienced in developing and providing innovative programs. The position requires someone with a friendly, approachable style and an ease with technology.
PRIMARY ROLE:
- Plan, prepare, promote and implement signature programs to support a variety of cultural experiences and civic engagement.
- Cultivate relationships with local organizations, businesses, interest groups and underserved populations to identify ways that the library can support these communities through outreach, services, and programs.
- Enrich the customer experience by adding content to the library's newsletter, social media, and website.
- Have a knowledge and excitement about books that are being published, news about upcoming and popular authors, and be able to suggest purchases and share literary expertise with colleagues.
- You will train staff in your areas of expertise, including technology, readers' advisory, digital services, adult programming, customer service and research practices.
- You manage the library's adult services volunteers effectively, and create opportunities for residents to volunteer at the library.
- You directly supervise part-time adult services technicians, and work closely with the youth services staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a comprehensive benefits package, including medical insurance, a pension, and generous paid time off. The position is 40 hours/week, but includes flextime to prepare for programs and events.
