Staff Scientist
DEPARTMENT: Research & Development
POSITION PURPOSE: This position is responsible for coordinating and performing research and development on new products, existing processes, customer-owned processes and business development projects within GVS Life Sciences. Emphasis is on the development of new membrane based products and processes, and scaling-up, and optimizing processes. The position will also play a key role in technology transfer and process validation. The position will provide technical support to operations, quality, customer service, and marketing and sales.
Essential Job Functions
1. Designs and assists in process development to improve product performance or process efficiency, encouraging cost reduction
2. Designs validation studies for new processes
3. Develops test protocols and procedures and carries out product evaluation.
4. Provides project management for both new products and continuous improvement of existing products
5. Writes technical reports, design control documents and validation protocols
6. Coordinates with accredited testing laboratories for regulatory compliance testing
7. Maintains liaison with Marketing and Sales, Customer Service, Quality, Engineering and Operations during every aspect of new product development and/or new process optimization
8. Maintain critical laboratory equipment in good working order and current calibration
Job Requirements:
1. Master or equivalent experience in polymer membrane chemistry and/or the life sciences, such as protein chemistry and microbiology
2. Experience with various characterization techniques of microporous membranes (bubble point, flow rate, filter integrity testing, scanning electron microscopy, porometry, protein binding, etc.)
3. Laboratory experience with membrane-based technologies, Western transfers and protein dot blot analysis
4. Laboratory experience in buffer making, aseptic technique, microbiology and cell culture techniques
5. Experience with statistical analysis of data and Design of Experiments
