Central Utility Plant Operator – MaineHealth
Location: Portland, ME
Job Type: Full-Time
We’re seeking a skilled Central Utility Plant Operator to join our Facilities team. In this role, you will be responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining the systems that power our hospitals—including boilers, chillers, generators, HVAC equipment, and associated control systems.
Key Responsibilities
• Monitor, operate, and maintain boilers, chillers, pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, and related plant equipment.
• Perform routine inspections and record operational data, adjusting systems as needed to maintain optimal performance.
• Respond to alarms, equipment malfunctions, and system abnormalities to ensure uninterrupted utilities across the facility.
• Conduct preventive maintenance and assist with troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues.
• Work collaboratively with Facilities Maintenance, Engineering, and Safety teams to support plant reliability.
• Follow all safety and regulatory standards, including ASME, NFPA, and state boiler regulations.
• Participate in on-call rotation or shift coverage as required.
Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training preferred.
• Previous experience in a utility plant, mechanical room, industrial facility, or similar environment strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of boiler and chiller operations, HVAC systems, and energy management systems.
• Maine State Boiler Operator License (or ability to obtain) preferred.
• Ability to read gauges, schematics, and control diagrams.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
