NSC Staffing is seeking skilled Firewatch personnel for an upcoming project in Portsmouth, VA. The ideal candidate will have 2 years of experience. Fire Watch training and certification are also required.
Essential Job Functions – Fire Watch
As a Fire Watch, you will be responsible for fire prevention and protection at the designated work site. Key responsibilities include:
- Fire Prevention: Implement fire watch procedures to protect personnel and property from fire hazards.
- Hot Work Monitoring: Ensure hot work areas are clear of combustibles and adequately prepared.
- Fire Protection Systems: Understand the hazards and functions of fixed and portable fire protection systems and how to operate them.
- Emergency Alerts: Communicate clearly and effectively to warn others of fire danger or the need for evacuation.
- Clean Work Environment: Maintain a clean, hazard-free work area during and after your shift.
- Safety Compliance: Follow all OSHA standards and company safety protocols, including using personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly.
Qualifications and Experience
- Active security clearance required.
- Fire Watch training card and certification are mandatory.
- Understand shipyard safety protocols and fixed/portable fire protection systems.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights.
- Proficient in using fire protection equipment such as fire extinguishers and alarms.
- Ability to perform basic tasks such as following instructions, reading safety reports, and operating necessary tools.
Physical Requirements
This role requires physical stamina and flexibility. Candidates should be able to:
- Lift/push/pull up to 75 lbs. occasionally.
- Stand for prolonged periods, bend, squat, crouch, and climb.
- Work in confined spaces and at various heights (ladders, scaffolding).
- Use hand tools and fire equipment safely.
