Registered Nurse (RN) – Vascular Access
Location: Central Maine Medical Center, Lewiston, ME
Full-time | Evenings | 8 - Hour Shifts
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized vascular access care, including assessment, insertion, and maintenance of vascular access devices (VADs). Utilizes ultrasound guidance and Modified Seldinger Technique (MST) to ensure safe, high-quality patient care and optimal outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Assess patients and place vascular access devices (PICC, midline, peripheral IV)
- Utilize ultrasound and MST technique for bedside insertion
- Perform VAD maintenance, dressing changes, and troubleshooting
- Monitor and follow up on VAD status and complications
- Provide patient, family, and staff education
- Document procedures and track quality metrics, audits, and CORE measures
- Support clinical trials and data reporting as applicable
- Schedule outpatient procedures and prioritize requests
- Maintain inventory, supplies, and medication stock
- Ensure accurate documentation and HIPAA compliance
Qualifications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
1. Current and valid State RN License.
2. Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
3. Infusion Nurse Certification preferred.
4. Completion of Ultrasound guided PICC placement using Modified Seldinger Technique program.
5. Minimum of three years’ nursing experience, with high level of competency in peripheral catheter placement.
6. PICC and other Vascular Access Device care required.
