Preparing for Graduate School
Steps to Preparing for Grad School Steps to take each year of school in your undergraduate studies to better prepare for graduate school. Volunteering Graduate Schools love to see well-rounded students who help each other and donate their time. This can be a great way to get letter of recommendation, gain experiences in your field (ex. volunteer at a hospital), and grow closer to your community. Research and Internships Research or internships show that you have experience in the field. Student Involvement Being involved in clubs, especially leadership, can give you connections, more skills, and shows graduate schools that you are a well rounded student. Resume A strong resume can help you stand out among other prospective students. Jobs A job can show that you can balance many different activities while maintaining your school life. Make Connections Develop relationships with professors to help you get involved in research, projects, or general mentoring. Understand Requirements Research graduate schools and determine if there are specific classes you need to take in your undergraduate coursework, testing requirements, or essay requirements. Get started early by preparing.
