Position Summary:
Drive tractor trailer to load and deliver round wood and chips to various locations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Maintain an OSHA approved first aid kit.
- Maintain good housekeeping of work area.
- Maintain an appropriate inventory of supplies and spare parts in a clean and orderly fashion.
- Know and use proper LOTO procedures.
- Pre-trip inspection of tractor-trailer pursuant to DOT regulations such as checking fluid levels of engine oil, antifreeze, tire pressure, brakes, appropriate load security, etc.
- Understand that under no circumstances shall the driver leave their cab while loading without notifying the loader operator. After communication with the crane operator and upon exiting the cab, the driver shall remain in the truck cab or be a minimum of two to three lengths away if outside the cab, in constant view of the crane operator at all times.
- Understand that during loading of chip wood, the driver shall leave the truck cab with communication of the crane operator and remain in a safe place until the chip van is 25% loaded. The driver can then enter his truck providing the loader operator is aware of the driver’s location at all times.
- Ensure load is loaded in a legal and safe manner.
- Understand that upon loading, the driver is to obtain the proper trip ticket and/or other paperwork and review that the information about the load is correct.
- Responsible for double checking all paperwork and turn in once completing the work week; no later than the following Monday by 7:00am.
- Understand that when hauling round wood products move to a safe location out of the way of the loading operation and secure the load.
- Understand that drivers of vehicles being unloaded must stay in cab or stand clear and remain in view of the unloader operator.
- Understand that no riders, other than employees, in company vehicles unless approved prior by management.
- Coordinate with Dispatch Manager regularly for hauling schedule.
- Follow all motor vehicle laws including seat belts, cell phone use, and distracted driving laws.
- Read the operator’s manual and follow proper operating and routine maintenance.
- Perform daily safety and maintenance checks. If you find a problem, report it immediately.
- Responsible for communicating all questions and issues regarding equipment operation, function, maintenance and directly to the Fleet Manager to get maintenance and repair work done in an efficient manner. The Fleet Manager will answer any questions and direct all required maintenance and repairs.
- Do not knowingly drive a truck and trailer that has a potential DOT violation.
- Cross train in other positions as deemed appropriate by the supervisor.
- Work efficiently as a team member.
- Know to always ask a question if you are not sure of something.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to throw straps over the load so as not to cause personal injury.
- Ability to pass Federal DOT drug screen and physical.
- Maintain driving record in accordance with Federal and State Motor Carrier regulations and meet company requirements.
- Ability to take orders, instructions and guidance from management and supervisors.
- Ability to deal with other employees in a diplomatic manner in a variety of stressful situations.
Education, Certificates:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License.
- Valid DOT Health Card.
- Maintain driving record in accordance with Federal and State Motor Carrier regulations and meet company requirements.
Physical Demands:
- Approximately 75% of the workday is spent driving.
- Throwing straps and pulling straps several times throughout the day.
- Reach at or above shoulder height frequently
- Demonstrate visual and auditory acuity in order to safely operate the vehicle
- Minimal color discrimination and depth perception
- Exposure to periodic moderate to fairly loud noise, below 85db
- Climbing in and out of the vehicle frequently
- The ability to work in all weather conditions
- The ability to work in all temperatures
- Wearing OSHA required PPE
