The Halloween Library and Snapshots of the Past
ABOUT US
Snapshots of the Past is a 25-year-old historical imagery publishing business. Over those 25 years we have built an archive of 300,000 historical images, and our clients have included HBO, NBC, Harvard and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The founder is the author of 17 illustrated history books, including the Pictorial America series, and has been an editor and curator for Arcadia Publishing and Globe Pequot since 2008.
THE PROJECTS
1. THE HALLOWEEN LIBRARY
(www.halloweenlibrary.com)
A new gallery of Halloween history in pictures: vintage postcards, imagery from the Library of Congress as well as movies and TV shows that featured holiday specials. It is also the home of a Halloween book series. Pictorial America Halloween is out now, and Hollywood Halloween Horrors comes out in 2027.
Our goal is to build the most popular Halloween imagery site on the Internet. Halloween history deserves a great home online, and we have the collection to build it.
2. SOCIAL AND CONTENT PROMOTION FOR ARTISTS
Help promote artists' work through content and social media. You help get copy posted in a way that showcases artists and helps promote their work.
3. AMERICAN HISTORY
Two sites devoted to American history in pictures:
www.snapshotsofthepast.com (our print store)
THE OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for a Social Media and PR Associate(s) to help launch and grow these sites, and to help promote the books. The role combines daily social content with public relations support, so you get hands-on experience in both during a real launch.
This is a great fit for a marketing, communications, art or history student, a recent graduate, or anyone looking for real portfolio work on a project with a national audience.
We do the strategy, set up the editorial schedule and draft the posts. You do the rest.
WHAT YOU WOULD DO
- Tweak and post our content across Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Reddit, Bluesky and X
- Turn vintage images into short videos and slideshows using CapCut, InShot, Canva or similar tools
- Write short captions and the stories behind the pictures
- Take part in Halloween, history and art communities and Facebook groups, sharing content people want to see
- Monitor and respond to comments and DMs across all platforms
- Track how posts perform and contribute to weekly reporting
- Support book publicity: reach out to Halloween and history blogs, podcasts, newspapers, TV and radio
- Help draft press releases and pitch emails
- Research new media, podcast and event opportunities
WHAT WE PROVIDE
- An archive of thousands of images ready to post, with the stories behind them
- Accounts already set up on every major platform
- A content calendar and scheduling tool
- Established brand voice and look
- Direct mentorship from the founder
- A professional letter of recommendation
COMPENSATION
Pay may be modest, or there may be no pay at all, to start. After years of research and setup, we are just now getting organized for this growth effort.
That is about to change. We are in negotiations with artists and a 100-year-old framer and gallery to set up a major new portal for artists in the Northeast.
We are looking for one or more people who want to join us on the ground floor. Depending on the situation, that could include equity.
POSITION DETAILS
Location: Remote
Hours: Part-time, flexible schedule

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Someone who loves this stuff. You might be an artist, a history buff, a vintage collector, a Halloween fanatic, or someone who can spend hours looking at old photographs and wondering about the stories behind them.
Helpful to have:
- Experience managing social media, for yourself or others
- Short-form video editing skills (CapCut, InShot or similar)
- Strong writing skills
- Graphic design skills (Canva or Adobe)
- Experience with scheduling tools (Loomly, Buffer, Later, Hootsuite)
- A background in art, art history or American history
- Familiarity with AI-assisted content tools

You don't need all of these things. What matters most is a passion for history, art and Halloween, and a want to be part of something special. Ideally if you have another job or source of income that would be helpful.
