SUMMARY: Provide exemplary customer service while performing a variety of tasks in the store including processing, pricing, and merchandising product in assigned department as well as operating a cash register.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Greet customers entering the store, answer questions and provide information on merchandise, procedures or policies.
Ring up customer purchases accurately on cash register and accept payment for purchases by cash, check, credit card, traveler’s checks, credit card or automatic debit cards and provide receipt(s) to customer; bag and/or wrap purchases.
Request product information or pricing using appropriate paging methods; and check pricing “codes” on applicable merchandise.
Offer customers carry out assistance if needed.
Following company procedures when accepting various forms of payment:
Checks – follow company requirements for personal checks
Cash – verify cash payment and count back cash/change to customer
Credit/Debit Cards – verify cash register tape matches credit/debit card slip.
Gift Cards – follow company procedures; redeem (deactivate) gift card for balances under $5.00.
Follow company cash-up procedures and maintain clean and orderly checkout areas.
Open, unpack and price merchandise, stock shelves and assist with signage as directed.
Assist with loss prevention efforts, including alerting LP staff as soon as possible of customer/employee theft, tag switching, etc. and of any unsafe conditions including slips, trips, and falls.
Other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide. Ability to perform these operations using units of American/Canadian money and weight measurement and volume.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Note: Ability to operate a manual pallet jack after adequate training.
