Maine Primary Care Association (MPCA) is a membership organization that represents the collective voices of Maine’s Community Health Centers (CHCs), which provide high quality, primary and preventive medical, behavioral health, and dental services for 1 in 6 Mainers.
MPCA is seeking a part-time Staff Accountant who will collaborate with MPCA’s Director of Finance to maintain finances according to generally accepted accounting principles and in accordance with policies established by the Board of Directors. The Staff Accountant will balance multiple priorities and creatively use available resources to support accounting and financial operations for MPCA in order to ensure properly managed cash and accounts and provide accurate, timely financial information to the CEO and Board of Directors. This is a mostly remote position with travel to our office in Manchester, ME approximately once per week.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Accounting:
• Processes cash receipts and disbursements
• Processes day-to-day accounts payable including posting invoices, obtaining necessary authorizations for payment, reconciliation of reimbursement requests, preparing and posting checks and responding to vendor and customer inquiries.
• Processes Accounts Receivable, reconciling subsidiary accounts and conducting regular processing of Accounts Receivable including preparing invoices, tracking outstanding AR, collections and ensure deposits are made timely and accurately.
• Prepares general ledger entries for monthly closing
• Reconciles bank statements
• Prepares monthly financial statements for review by the Director of Finance for presentation to MPCAs Finance Committee Meeting and Board of Directors meetings
• Works with the auditor and the Director of Finance during annual audits
• Assists in budget preparation
• Tracks fixed assets annually
• Reviews of physical inventory annually
Grants Management:
• Provides support to the Director of Finance in the submission of required reports to Federal, State and private funding sources
• Assists in preparing Cash Draw Request or monthly invoices for reimbursements from grant funding sources
Human Resources:
• Processes payroll including timesheet review, benefits, taxes and record keeping. Reconciles the quarterly 941 report from Bangor Payroll.
• Maintains personnel records and fringe benefit enrollments for staff
Required Qualification and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree
• Professional, self-motivated, flexible, cooperative, communicative, creative problem solver and committed to social justice
• Intermediate knowledge of accounting
• Excellent communication skills, especially for creating written materials
• Excellent computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases and social media sites. Able to learn and proficiently use new programs quickly
• Ability to work as a team member and work effectively with diverse staff and stakeholders
• Demonstrate an awareness of and value for the inclusion of cultural humility and equity principles in task implementation
• Prefer candidates with knowledge of MIP (Abila) fund accounting software
• Prefer candidates with non-profit financial experience
