Job Summary:
The Museum Security officer will be directly responsible for protecting and safeguarding the Colby College Museum of Art’s collection, facilities, patrons, students, faculty, and staff. The Museum security officer will report to the museum security manager. We encourage inquiries from candidates who will contribute to the diversity of our College, including its cultural and ethnic diversity.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work closely with Museum propriety staff in developing and implementing Museum security procedures
- Monitor all Museum patrons and ensure they adhere to Museum protocols and policies
- Work effectively with the public and provide excellent customer service and assistance
- Monitor Museum CCTV, intrusion, and life safety systems
- Keep logs, security check lists, and art inventories on a daily basis
- Provide informational assistance and promote good public relations
- Deal with various levels of incidents as necessary, including first response in an emergency, administering First Aid or CPR
- Maintain an alertness for suspicious activities
- Report security violations and write incident reports when necessary
- Perform safety and security inspections of all areas of the Museum once a month, or as needed
- Provide personal safety and security services for students, faculty, staff, and visitors
- Become thoroughly knowledgeable of the Museum facility, CCTV, intrusion, life safety, and HVAC/mechanical systems
- Perform additional duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; professional coursework or post-secondary education are a plus
- Campus security or law enforcement experience is helpful
- Advanced First Aid or Emergency Medical Technician experience desirable
- Knowledge of Museum security and intrusion/life safety systems is helpful
- Must present a neat, clean, and professional image
- Ability to be reliable, responsible, and dependable, and fulfill obligations
- Display a quiet and courteous customer-friendly attitude at all times
- Well-developed public relations skills; be able to perform duties in a flexible, non-confrontational environment; work with members of a diverse community; and utilize diplomacy and tact in dealing with sensitive situations
- Effectively operate a variety of equipment including portable radios, computers, closed circuit TV, and access control systems
- Ability to make an impact through work as a member of a team and diverse community
- Valid driver’s license required and must meet the College’s Fleet Safety Policy requirements
- Ability to work independently and walk and stand for long periods of time
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills, with the ability to complete clear, concise, and accurate incident reports and other documentation

General campus/museum environment. Position involves frequent movement. Employee must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time. Some lifting, sitting, computer use, and CCTV monitoring.
