The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is seeking to fill an Environmental Specialist IV vacancy in Augusta.
BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This is a supervisory position in DEP’s Office of Innovation and Assistance (OIA) that provides multimedia compliance and technical assistance. Key responsibilities include assisting Maine’s business community; providing outreach and training to regulated entities; supporting multimedia licensing and regulatory projects across licensing programs in the department; creating technical and regulatory education materials; and implementing agency-wide employee safety policies.
Other key responsibilities include:
- Respond to general phone and e-mail inquiries regarding DEP programs
- Staff and support the Land Resources Bureau's assistance hotline
- Coordinate with teams of DEP staff to promote regulatory compliance through technical assistance, development of guidance material and training
- Coordinate with the U.S. EPA, other state and local agencies to provide multimedia compliance assistance
- Assist with administration of the Environmental Leader Program including reviewing workbooks and certifying program participants
- Supervise customer service staff
- Provide support to the OIA Director and other department staff as needed
- Assist with implementation of DEP safety and quality management programs
- Administer and track grants that fund OIA's initiatives

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: An eight (8) year combination of education and/or experience in environmental science or related area which includes at least two (2) years of supervisory or program management/administration experience. Qualifying education must include at least 15 credit hours of science or engineering coursework.
