Vice President of Finance / Bangor, Maine

Our client, a family-owned group of service-based companies located in northern Maine, is seeking a VP of Finance to join the team and contribute to their collaborative, mission driven culture.

Reporting to the President, the Vice President of Finance will serve as the financial leader responsible for overseeing the financial health and strategy of a closely held, family-owned organization. This role manages all financial activities for the company, its business units, real estate, and investments, while providing clear financial guidance to ownership and senior leadership to drive growth, efficiency, and sound fiscal practices, while upholding our standards as a Best Place to Work in Maine.

Requirements of the Vice President of Finance:

Minimum 10 years of financial leadership experience, with a preference for family-owned and/or multi-entity business backgrounds.
Adaptable to a small to medium-sized business environment (100 to 500 employees).
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial planning, and risk management.
Experience in transportation, logistics, and/or service-based industry preferred.
Advanced degree (e.g., CPA, CFA, MBA) preferred.
Familiarity with Federal, Maine, and GAAP rules & regulations.
Proven experience implementing financial technology and driving operational efficiencies. SAGE Intaact and Quickbooks experience preferred.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex ideas simply and effectively.

How you will provide value as the Vice President of Finance:

Oversee all accounting, cash management, investments, budgeting, and financial reporting.
Ensure liquidity, oversee debt and asset management, and lead the cash flow planning process.
Develop and execute financial strategies that align with the company’s growth goals and industry opportunities.
Manage tax reporting and regulatory compliance in partnership with external accounting firms.
Identify and implement financial tools and systems to improve efficiency, accuracy, and decision-making. Provide oversight of our IT department.
Act as a financial advisor to ownership, providing insights and recommendations for investments and business interests.
Establish and monitor key financial metrics and scorecards to ensure performance aligns with goals.
Maintain strong relationships with our key financial partners and strategic business vendors.
Recruit, train, and manage the finance team, ensuring professional growth and strong execution.
