Located a ½ mile from the Atlantic Ocean and 15 minutes from Portland, Loranger Memorial School, a grades 3-8 school with 270 students, is seeking a School Counselor to join our faculty. The successful candidate will be a member of the education leadership team and serve a vital role in maximizing student success through advocacy and collaboration. Through a comprehensive school counseling program, the counselor will promote equity and access to opportunities and educational experiences that develop strategies for academic achievement, managing emotions, developing interpersonal skills, and exploring future academic and career interests.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Citizenship, residency or work visa
- Maintains or is eligible for Maine Department of Education School Counselor Certificate (#075)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Working knowledge of adolescent development, disabilities, family systems, and special education methods
- Experience with BARR (Building Assets Reducing Risks) preferred, or other system of MTSS
- Thorough knowledge of Section 504 regulations and demonstrated ability to coordinate and manage 504 plans as building coordinator
- Ability to provide individual student academic planning and goal setting appropriate for upper elementary and middle school students
- Experience delivering classroom lessons aligned with American School Counselor Association Standards
- Demonstrated ability to provide short-term counseling and make appropriate referrals for long-term support
- Strong data analysis skills to identify student issues, needs, and challenges
- Proven ability to collaborate with families, teachers, administrators, and the community
- Experience implementing prevention and intervention programs focused on upper elementary and middle school challenges
- Demonstrated ability to maintain student confidentiality and handle sensitive situations
- Strong crisis intervention and management skills
- Experience supporting students through elementary to middle school transitions
- Ability to effectively communicate with all stakeholders
- Experience with early career exploration and academic planning appropriate for middle school students
- PowerSchool Student Infromation System experience preferred but not required
