FM - Carpentry Shop
Job Summary
At Bowdoin College, the Facilities Department takes pride in maintaining and enhancing the beauty, functionality, and sustainability of the historic campus. The Facilities Department is requiring a Carpenter/Painter to:
- Maintain, repair, and replace damaged or worn-out carpentry-related items throughout campus buildings and facilities
- Perform other miscellaneous activities as needed including snow removal from roofs, maintenance, and clean-up of carpentry/paint shop areas
- Construct new building components including but not limited to: windows, doors, walls, floors, ceilings, window treatments, masonry, furniture, decks, stairs, siding, exterior trim, roofs, campus signs, benches, bookcases, etc.
- Perform painting and related duties including patching, surface preparation, application of paint and related products and erecting scaffolding and ladders required to perform such work
Compensation:
- The hourly range for this position is expected to be: $26 – $28 per hour, based on skills and experience
- This position is eligible for overtime and shift/weekend differential

Education/Skills Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Vocational or technical training in carpentry preferred
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize work, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and meet deadlines
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment, adapting to changing tasks and priorities
- Ability to problem-solve, including identifying issues, generating solutions and making sound decisions
- High level of attention to detail to ensure accuracy of work
- Basic proficiency in using computer software including MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents
- 1 – 3 years of experience directly related to all aspects of rough and finish carpentry
- Experience with carpentry, painting, and the use and of related power and hand tools
- Experience with TMA work order platform preferred
- A valid driver’s license and the ability to meet the requirements of the College’s Motor Vehicle Use Policy
- This position requires a reference, criminal and motor vehicle background check and pre-employment physical assessment
Standard Work Days and Hours
- This is a full-time position working 40 hours/52 weeks, (1.00 FTE) and include weekends and overtime with the expectation to respond 24 hours a day.
- Standard administrative hours are Monday to Friday from 7 am to 3:30 pm
