The Lyman Morse Production Manager oversees the day-to-day production operations and equipment maintenance at Lyman-Morse Fabrication. He/she ensures that work is prioritized in accordance with the production schedule. He/she assigns projects and work instructions to workers on the shop floor and is the primary point of contact for fabricators and machinists on the shop floor. The production manager is the driving force behind a safe, well-motivated, and efficient workshop and is expected, at all times, to lead by example. He/she must have a “can do” attitude to go above and beyond to ensure that the production staff is delivering the finest metal components and providing excellent service to the company’s customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for production quality and workmanship while maintaining ISO 9000 compliance and quality standards
- Day-to-day team management including morning meetings and job assignments
- Manage all work requests from internal divisions, including scheduling, coordination, and timely completion
- Build and retain a skilled team through recruitment, training, and development
- Manage wages and conduct employee performance reviews
- Collaborate with Project Managers across LM Workboats and other Lyman-Morse divisions
- Develop and review labor estimates with divisions prior to submission of quotes
- Demonstrate clear leadership and foster continuous development of subordinate employees
- Promote and maintain a continuous improvement culture
- Ensure employee safety through orientations, training, equipment guarding, and safe working practices
- Verify all jobs have complete work instructions before starting and that objectives are met throughout the project
- Track actual labor hours against budgeted hours for each task and alert management of potential overages
- Coordinate with QC at inspection/hold points and ensure inspections are completed before proceeding
- Handle employee welfare and discipline, including motivation, support, warnings, and dismissal when necessary
- Communicate any circumstances that may impact the production schedule to the Division Manager in a timely manner
- Ensure shop equipment and tools are maintained on schedule with proper documentation
- Maintain safe, secure, and organized material storage
- Oversee shop housekeeping standards
- Review employee timesheets and approve Paid Time Off requests
- Support and enforce all Lyman-Morse policies
- Other duties as assigned by the Division Manager
Relevant Experience
- Experience with AWS structural welding code, including the ability to understand welding symbols
- Knowledge of and the ability to interpret architectural, structural, and shop drawings
- Background in the design, planning, and construction of high-quality metal structures and components
- Experience in a fast-paced, work environment with multiple facets in a constantly changing environment.
- Minimum of 8 years in metal fabrication/welding
- Minimum of 2 years machining
- Understanding of rigging/lifting operations
- Experience with electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems desirable
- First aid trained
Required Educational Experience:
- High school diploma
- Associates or higher degree desirable.
- OSHA/MSHA Training
