We are seeking caring and compassionate individuals that want to make a difference in a child's life. A Gym Teaching Assistant should have experience in kinesiology, education, and/or early intervention. A Gym Teaching Assistant's primary job duty is to ensure students have enriched programming that will allow them to develop motor skills, play skills and good overall physical development. A Gym Teaching Assistant will support the classroom teacher to oversee and ensure student programming, student progress, and support and the training of current and new paraprofessionals working in their classrooms. A Gym Teaching Assistant will provide training and support to paraprofessionals in their classrooms. A Gym Teaching Assistant is expected to learn a variety of early intervention theories and methods, demonstrate mastery level skills working with children with special needs, and be highly motivated and passionate about making a difference in a child’s life. A Gym Teaching Assistant employed at Watch Me Shine will never define a child by their diagnosis; rather see a wide-open future of possibilities.
Essential Functions of the Role:
- Supporting the gym teacher in planning and implementing activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of the children in the program;
- Following and implementing daily, weekly, and monthly schedules of activities;
- Support with developing and implement physical education activities and exercises for students;
- Daily, monitor and assess student's physical development and progress;
- Provide individualized 1:1 instruction and support for students;
- Establishing routines and provide positive guidance;
- Providing a safe and secure environment for children to feel comfortable;
- Tracking student progress;
- Oversee, support, and train paraprofessionals working in the gym classroom;
- Ensuring equipment and the facility are clean, well maintained, and safe always
Qualifications:
- Preferred: Bachelors or higher in early intervention/special education/education/social work or another related field.
- Experience is preferred but Watch Me Shine is willing to train the right applicant.
- Candidates must pass an extensive criminal background check.
