Bread + Butter Catering Company is a locally owned and operated catering company based in South Portland (conveniently located near I-295), serving clients across Maine and beyond for over a decade. We specialize in large-scale events and are committed to delivering exceptional food at every one of them.
We are looking for an experienced, creative, and self-directed cook to join our culinary team for the season. Beyond kitchen skill, this role calls for flexibility, composure under pressure, sharp problem-solving, and a genuine team-first attitude.
This position is a natural fit for food and hospitality professionals who love what they do but are ready to leave the grind of restaurant life behind. Most of your week is spent working alongside our tight-knit team in our spacious warehouse commissary kitchen — no customers, no chaos, just great people doing great work. On event days, we travel throughout the state, cooking in open fields, on ocean-view properties, and anywhere people are gathering to celebrate. Our menu is expansive and seasonal, meaning no two events are ever quite the same. We work closely with local farmers and fisheries to highlight the best of what Maine has to offer, and we're looking for someone who shares our enthusiasm for seasonality and creative cooking.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a seasonal, full-time position with a path toward becoming a back-of-house/kitchen team leader on events. You'll work closely with our Kitchen Manager and fellow cooks — both at our South Portland commissary and on-site at events — helping maintain quality and consistency while executing meal service for groups of 25 to 300+ guests. We're looking for a clear communicator and strong executor who takes pride in their craft. Bread + Butter is built on a culture of inclusivity, hard work, and having fun while doing it.

REQUIREMENTS
──────────────────────────
• Minimum 5 years of professional kitchen experience
• Availability for 1–2 events per week, including most Saturdays
• Availability for 3–4 days of in-house prep weekly (typically Tuesday–Friday, 6–8 hrs/day)
• Ability to lift up to 60 lbs
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
• Solid knowledge of common food allergens and cross-contamination protocols
• Must be authorized to work in the United States
• ServSafe certification is a plus
