SUMMARY
The Garden Laborer is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the Pineland Farms public garden and other gardens around the campus.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Perform planting, weeding, raking and pruning.
Maintain garden equipment and hand tools.
Interact with visitors in the public garden.
Working in the cut flower garden making arrangements for weddings, guest houses and The Market

QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of various plants and growing conditions.
Ability to maintain an attractive garden design.
Physical stamina and ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment.
Valid driver’s license, with a clean driving record.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
2-3 years of hands-on experience with gardening.
Must be at least 17 years of age

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud.
This position requires working in a variety of outdoor climates, including hot summers and cold winters, often in rain, snow. Employees regularly operate and work near machinery and equipment that may require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hearing protection, hard hats, and safety glasses. While most tasks are performed outdoors, some indoor work may be required.
