About Us
The Send Brewing Co. is a brewpub at 15 Ocean St. in South Portland's Knightville neighborhood. We serve craft beer alongside Japanese comfort food — izakaya-style shareables, donburi, sandos, and okazu-inspired family cooking. We've been open almost a year and a half, and we're growing.
The Role
We're looking for a Head Chef to lead our kitchen — someone who can own the food program from prep to plate and keep things running clean and consistent day-to-day. This is a hands-on role. You'll be cooking, managing a small BOH team, and collaborating with the kitchen manager and the owner on menu direction.
What We're Looking For
- Genuine fluency in Japanese cuisine — washoku, yoshoku, izakaya cooking — not just surface-level familiarity
- Experience running a BOH: scheduling, ordering, food cost, training
- A creative hand with menus, grounded in technique
- Someone who works well in a small, close-knit team
- Low ego, high standards
What You'll Do
- Execute daily service across lunch and dinner
- Manage BOH staff and kitchen operations
- Develop and iterate on menus seasonally with the kitchen manager and ownership
- Maintain food cost, quality, and consistency
- Coordinate with vendors and manage ordering
