Collect samples of phosphate coating solutions weekly. Daily analyzes phosphate solution for total and free acid as described in appropriate work instruction. Adds appropriate chemicals, prepares and runs samples for salt spray and coating weight testing daily per work instructions.
Operate abrasive cleaning equipment such as grit blast machines. Use abrasive sanding discs, belts, wheels, which include buffing, polishing wheels, and compounds. Use trichloroethylene vapor degreaser, acid descaler and caustic cleaning compounds. Plugs or masks parts as necessary to protect items from abrasive or coating processes. May mix various types or combinations of abrasives depending on size, design, and material in order to meet specified finish. Adds Medias as they wear down in size. Also determines when cycles may be stopped to additional parts.
Processes designated items through a heat treat oven during phosphate coating cycles to prevent hydrogen embrittlement. Maintain daily logs of items that are heat treated in compliance with company and government directives. May start up, shut off and adjust oven temperatures.
Monitors condition of finishing media for glazed, loaded, or dull, appearance. Recondition media as necessary. Uses electrical hoist or manually lifts trays, baskets, and racks containing parts to be finished. Loads and unloads items from the various finishing processes.
Protect finished items from corrosion by applying oil or other rust inhibitors. Uses gages during final sanding, buffing and polishing operations to ensure designated specifications. Maintain cleanliness and serviceable condition of equipment by practicing good housekeeping policies. Physical capacity requirements for this position require the incumbent to be able to lift 35 lbs. frequently and 50 lbs. on occasion.
