The Bangor Daily News is seeking a dynamic part-time development coordinatorto join our team. This role is right for someone with strong marketing, engagement and customer care skills who is passionate about the reader and donor experience and supporting the mission of local journalism through philanthropy.
This is a 20 hour per week hybrid position, expected to be in the Bangor office 1-2 days per week at minimum and 3-4 days during campaigns.
Qualifications:
You have a background in marketing and/or fundraising.
You have experience with donor management systems such as Donorbox or Little Green Light.
You are an excellent writer.
You are comfortable creating content in a design platform such as Canva.
You are comfortable working in a high feedback (both directions!) environment.
You are comfortable advocating for your ideas and questioning others’ ideas, and will dig deeper for the WHY both when something succeeded…and when it failed.
You are curious about people and you act with integrity.
You are highly organized and can maintain momentum on projects without daily supervision.
You have experience with nonprofit organizations, and bonus points if you can debate various fiscal sponsorship models.
Key Responsibilities:
Donor engagement and stewardship
Contribute to the development of and lead the execution of compelling unrestricted fundraising campaigns for BDN audiences, including direct mail and digital marketing techniques.
Manage the individual giving calendar throughout the year, and own the calendars for fundraising campaigns
Create engaging content that resonates with readers and drives donations.
Build and maintain relationships with prospective and active donors to support revenue goals.
Generate timely and accurate gift and pledge acknowledgements.
Develop and implement strategies for donor stewardship and recognition across the donor lifecycle that encourage continued and increased giving.
Manage and grow the recurring giving program.
Sponsorships and community engagement
Build and maintain relationships with prospective and active sponsors to support revenue goals.
Plan and execute fundraising events and sponsorship opportunities in alignment with organizational goals.
Support on-site reporter meetups in communities around Maine, as needed.
Database and reporting
Maintain the donor database (Little Green Light) with a high degree of accuracy, including gift processing, appeals and attribution, data entry, acknowledgements, and data integrity.
Generate reports and provide analysis to support fundraising and strategic decision-making and identify opportunities for growth.
Support financial operations and our fiscal sponsorship by following procedures to ensure accuracy monthly throughout the year and daily during campaigns.
This position has an hourly pay rate of $25-$30 an hour.
