A Gas Station/Grocery Store Associate provides excellent customer service while performing a wide range of duties, including operating the cash register, maintaining store cleanliness, stocking products, and ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for customers. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast‑paced retail environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesCustomer Service
- Greet customers in a friendly, professional manner.
- Answer questions about products, fuel pumps, store policies, and services.
- Handle customer concerns or escalate to management when needed.
Cash Handling & Sales
- Operate cash registers, scanners, and point‑of‑sale systems.
- Process cash, credit, debit, lottery, and gift card transactions.
- Balance drawer and follow proper cash-handling procedures.
Store Operations
- Restock shelves, coolers, and displays to maintain product availability.
- Rotate products to ensure freshness (especially in grocery sections).
- Monitor fuel pumps and ensure safety procedures are followed.
Cleanliness & Safety
- Clean the sales floor, restrooms, parking lot, and pump areas as needed.
- Dispose of trash and follow sanitation guidelines.
- Maintain compliance with state and federal safety regulations, including age‑restricted sales (tobacco, alcohol, lottery).
Skills & Qualifications
- Strong customer-service and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure.
- Basic math and cash-handling skills.
- Ability to lift 25–50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Prior retail or convenience store experience (preferred but not required).
Work Environment
- Fast-paced retail setting with frequent customer interaction.
- Indoor and outdoor tasks (including working near fuel pumps).
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals, cold coolers/freezers, and varying weather conditions.
