Job Description - School Counselor
QUALIFICATIONS: Qualifications/certifications: State of Maine Certification 075
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
JOB GOAL: To encourage and support all students in areas of academics, social/emotional learning, and career/college readiness.
Responsibilities
- Deliver guidance curriculum to meet the educational needs of students in PreK-8th grades in the areas of academic, career/college readiness, and social emotional learning. This can be accomplished in the following ways.
- Regular classroom instruction.
- Small group instruction
- Individual intervention and/or crisis management as needed.
- Meet student’s immediate needs through responsive services such as individual/small group counseling (short term), crisis intervention, prevention, referrals to outside agencies for more intensive services, peer mediation, and follow up.
- Support Dr. Lewis S. Libby School’s core values, care, respect and responsibility through instruction and modeling.
- Engage in RTI and PBIS system/team.
- Advocate for students, staff, and community.
- Use data to make informed decisions around curriculum and interventions.
- Develop and follow procedures for counseling referrals of students to succeed in school.
- Consult with teachers, parents, administrators, and school staff to help all students achieve success in the school setting.
- Coordinate 8th grade transition to area high schools.
- Refer Students, parents, and teachers to appropriate community, state, or private helping agencies when needed.
- Review new student files and transfer outgoing student records.
- Performs other duties and completes responsibilities as may be assigned by the administration.
