Early Childhood Special Education Coordinator
Sacopee Valley Schools are nestled between the Saco and Ossipee River in the town of Hiram, Maine. Students from the surrounding towns of Baldwin, Cornish, Parsonsfield, and Porter attend Sacopee Valley. Sacopee Valley is conveniently located 30 minutes from North Conway, NH and 45 minutes from Portland. Recreational water activities at numerous local ponds and lakes are only minutes away. Winter fun, like skiing at King Pine or Pleasant Mountain, is an easy drive. There are also lots of opportunities for other recreational activities including hiking, camping, fishing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, or antiquing. Cornish (less than five minutes away) has been called the Crown of York County and was voted one of the 2016 Best Places to Live in Maine. Cornish is also home to some highly-rated restaurants. Sacopee Valley educates just under 1,000 students in grades Pre-K – 12. With small classes and schools, teachers are able to know and inspire their students. Access to technology is widely available with new MacBook Airs for every student in grades 5-12 and iPads for students in grades K-4. Sacopee Valley is also one of the few districts in the State of Maine that has embraced the TURN Union Reform work that encourages teacher leadership. The Early Childhood Special Education Coordinator will be responsible for the overall administration, supervision, and coordination of early childhood special education programs within the district. This role involves coordinating a mixed delivery system that ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, providing leadership and support to staff, and fostering positive relationships with families and community partners.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Strong understanding of special education state and federal regulations
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build strong relationships with learners, parents, and colleagues
- Ability to foster a safe and inclusive learning environment
- Current Maine Teacher of Students with Disabilities Certification (282), Assistant Administrator of Special Education Certification (035), or Administrator of Special Education Certification (030)
Performance Responsibilities (not Necessarily Limited To)
- Partner with the Director of Special Education to oversee Part B transition
- Collaborate with the comprehensive special education team to create a cohesive delivery model in compliance with state and federal standards for early childhood learners
- Case-manage all IEP related paperwork for Pre-K 3, 4, and 5 year old (AWNs, Written Notices, IEPs and referral related documents)
- Coordinate early childhood special education referral, assessment, and programming in accordance with the district’s special education policies and procedures at the direction of the Director of Special Education
- Assist the Director of Special Education with the supervision and evaluation of probationary and continuing contract early childhood special education personnel
- Initiate, prepare, and facilitate various forms of professional development activities to support continued development of early childhood educators
