ISF Trading is a seafood market on the Portland waterfront at 390 Commercial St. We are looking for a friendly, reliable part-time assistant to join our team. Our main shifts are Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM, but we also sometimes need help on weekdays (Monday–Thursday), so the schedule is flexible and we are happy to discuss what works for you.
If you can only work two of the three weekend days, that is also fine — please still get in touch. Students are welcome to apply. No experience is required, and we offer paid trial shifts so you can see if the role is a good fit.
This role is a mix of cashier work, customer service, restocking, organising products, keeping the market clean, and helping customers with simple dine-in service when needed.
Main responsibilities:
- Operate the cash register and handle customer payments
- Greet customers and answer basic questions about our seafood products
- Restock seafood products, shelves, coolers and freezer areas
- Keep the seafood market clean, tidy and organised
- Help customers with simple dine-in service when needed
- Follow basic food safety, hygiene and cleanliness standards
- Assist with general shop duties during busy periods
Requirements:
- Must be able to speak English
- Friendly, warm and helpful with customers
- Reliable, punctual and honest
- Comfortable working around seafood and cold storage areas
- Able to stand during shifts and lift light to moderate boxes when needed
- Willing to help with different tasks, not only cashier work
- No previous experience required — we will train you
- Previous retail, cashier, restaurant or food service experience is helpful, but not required
- Mandarin Chinese or Japanese language skills are a plus, but not required
