Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Activities Assistant to enhance the quality of life for residents in our senior living community. The ideal candidate will possess a genuine enthusiasm for engaging older adults through meaningful activities, fostering social interaction, and promoting overall well-being. This role involves planning, organizing, and facilitating a variety of recreational programs tailored to residents' interests and abilities, with a focus on supporting individuals with memory care needs such as dementia and Alzheimer's disease. The Activities Assistant will work closely with staff and residents to create a vibrant, inclusive environment that encourages participation and joy.
Duties
- Plan, coordinate, and implement diverse recreational activities that promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being for residents.
- Facilitate engaging programs including arts and crafts, music therapy, games, outings, and special events aligned with residents’ preferences and capabilities.
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed to ensure comfort and participation.
- Collaborate with nursing staff and caregivers to tailor activities for individuals with dementia or other cognitive impairments.
- Maintain accurate records of resident participation and activity feedback to evaluate program effectiveness.
- Manage activity supplies, equipment, and materials efficiently while ensuring safety standards are upheld.
- Foster a positive environment that encourages socialization, independence, and aging issues counseling when appropriate.
- Support the development of personalized activity plans that address individual needs related to memory care, disabilities, or chronic conditions.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in assisted living facilities or nursing homes with a focus on senior care or long-term care environments.
- Knowledge of Alzheimer’s care, dementia care, memory care strategies, and recreational therapy techniques.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage schedules effectively while balancing multiple activities.
- Excellent communication skills to engage residents empathetically and collaborate with team members.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or in home & community care settings is highly desirable.
- Background in event planning or recreational programming is preferred.
