Paper Trails is a "Best Place to Work in Maine," and we mean it! We're a full service payroll, HCM, and HR firm supporting small to mid sized businesses across Maine and New England, and we're looking for our next Payroll & HCM Consultant to join the team.
This isn't a "run payroll and move on" kind of role. You'll own a book of complex client relationships, configuring and optimizing our payroll software, isolved, to fit each client's needs, troubleshooting issues directly with them, training clients and teammates, building custom imports, and using AI tools to make payroll processing more efficient. You'll also handle the technical fundamentals: processing complicated payrolls, filing tax and voluntary deduction reports, and managing garnishments and levies. A strong grasp of payroll tax and compliance law, including multi state payroll and wage and hour rules, is essential.
What you'll do
Manage a book of approximately 150 to 200 clients, becoming a trusted advisor for their payroll and HCM needs
Configure, troubleshoot, and train clients on isolved, our HCM platform (we'll help you become a master!)
Build custom imports and use AI tools to streamline payroll processing
Process complex payrolls, including multi state calculations, deductions, adjustments, and error review
Handle labor allocation and general ledger setups, fringe benefit calculations, and voids and corrections
Set up and manage advanced services like timekeeping, onboarding, benefits administration, tax setup, and custom reporting
Stay sharp on payroll tax, compliance, and regulatory changes so you're the expert your clients count on
What you bring
Experience processing payroll for companies up to 500 employees, with solid knowledge of multi state payroll, benefits administration, timekeeping, and federal and state tax and labor law
FPC or CPP certification preferred
Comfort with Windows, Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel and AI Tools
A background in accounting, business, or human resources (degree preferred, not required)
Sharp math and decision making skills, and genuinely great customer service instincts
Curiosity and comfort with technology, you'll be using new tools regularly
