Job Description
Provide Strategic, Department-specific, Technical and Resource Management for Inside and Outside Machinists across all Areas and Facilities. Responsibilities include:
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for construction activities across all areas of the shipyard and Offsite Facilities; reporting to the Superintendent of the Machinist Trades.
- Lead the execution of all construction activities to support ship construction schedules and test milestone schedules.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Machinist Trade Assistant Superintendents, FLS’s, and Mechanics.
- Monitor quality and quantity of work being performed. Identify and report systemic quality issues that can be evaluated and corrections implemented by the departmental process control group.
- Collaborate with trade and area management in an effort to assign resources and resolve department deck plate issues.
- Accept joint responsibility with Area Management for Trade cost and schedule performance.
- Identify problems which drive cost and schedule challenges; drive process improvement initiatives to achieve continued improvements to performance.
- Work with supporting division POC’s in an effort to execute Trade Value Stream projects.
Required/Preferred Education/Training
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
Preferred:
- Graduate BIW Apprentice or PDP
Required/Preferred Experience
Preferred:
- BIW graduate apprentice.
- Experience with Earned Value Management System.
Required:
- Associates degree in mechanical OR equivalent 10 years working in a mechanical Trade.
- Minimum 5 years of supervisory/management experience in a Mechanical Trade.
- Excellent administrative skills: effective interpersonal skills, demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, problem solving/decision making, conflict resolution, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage conflict and multiple priorities.
