SALARY/BENEFITS: This position is classified at Level 4, with a salary of $67,907.35 and full benefit package commensurate with the Agreement between the MCCS Trustees and the MEA Administrators Unit. In addition, we offer a hybrid work schedule that allows for remote work one day per week, promoting flexibility and work-life balance. This is an in person, on campus position.
Position Summary
York County Community College (YCCC), a dynamic institution with a proud 30-year history of transforming lives and communities throughout York County, Maine, is seeking an exceptional Instructional Designer to join our team. In this vital role, the Instructional Designer will be responsible for the development, design, and implementation of high-quality instructional materials and resources that enhance the teaching and learning experience for students.
Collaborating closely with faculty, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders, the Instructional Designer will leverage instructional design principles and technology to create engaging, effective, and accessible educational content. The primary objective is to promote student success and support the goals of the community college by utilizing innovative delivery methods and aligning instructional materials with industry needs.

As part of their responsibilities, the Instructional Designer will ensure that all instructional materials meet relevant regulations and accreditation standards, maintaining the highest standards of academic excellence. They will also facilitate professional development opportunities for faculty and instructional staff, ensuring that they have the resources and support necessary to deliver high-quality instruction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include but are not limited to the following;
Instructional Design And Development
- Collaborate with instructors and subject matter experts to analyze learning needs and develop learning objectives for all courses including the ongoing development of master courses.
- Design and develop engaging instructional materials for all course offerings to include multiple delivery modes, modules, multimedia presentations, assessments, and learning activities.
- Incorporate active learning strategies, assessment techniques, and appropriate educational technologies into instructional design.
- Apply universal design principles to ensure accessibility and inclusivity in all instructional materials.
Technology Integration
- Evaluate and recommend instructional technologies and tools to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.
- Provide training and support to faculty and staff on the effective use of instructional technologies.
Collaboration And Consultation
- Collaborate with instructors, instructional teams, employers, and other stakeholders to provide instructional design expertise and guidance both at YCCC and for system-wide projects (e.g. develop micro-credentials for short-term trainings).
- Consult with subject matter experts to identify and gather relevant learning resources and materials.
- Participate in curriculum development and revision efforts to align instructional materials with established standards and best practices.
- Collaborate with other Instructional Designers and the Center for Teaching Excellence to create alignment and consistency in offerings across all of YCCC.
Quality Assurance And Assessment
- Conduct quality assurance reviews of instructional materials to ensure adherence to instructional design principles, learning objectives, and accessibility standards.
- Conduct formative and summative evaluations of instructional materials and make recommendations for improvement.
- Assist in the collection and analysis of data related to instructional design and student learning outcomes.
Professional Development
- Stay current with emerging trends, research, and best practices in instructional design and educational technology independently and through constructive sharing of practices with other instructional designers at YCCC and across the system.
- Attend conferences, workshops, and training sessions to enhance professional knowledge and skills.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in instructional design practices.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or related field
- 4 years' experience in curriculum development and course design
- Additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or related field
- 4 + years’ experience in curriculum design and course design in a community college setting
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Demonstrated experience in instructional design, curriculum development, and educational technology integration.
- Proficiency in instructional design models, principles, and best practices.
- Knowledge of learning management systems (LMS) and other educational technologies.
- Familiarity with multimedia authoring tools, eLearning authoring tools, and graphic design software.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with instructors, administrators, and other stakeholders.
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Experience in higher education or community college settings is preferred.
