Military Service State Consultant – Full-time - Augusta, ME
*Note – This position requires five years of former military service. It requires an intrinsically motivated and somewhat outgoing person who can work full-time and travel to different parts of Maine
Location: The selected candidate must be in Augusta, ME, or a commuting area. The candidate must be willing to report to the armory located in Augusta as determined by operational needs.
Our client is seeking a State Consultant whose primary role is to educate service members and their families on the resources and services available through our client. This is accomplished in multiple ways, including event support, community capacity building, and direct support. Event support includes providing a resource table and or briefing to a large group of service members and their families and could include Yellow Ribbon events, family days, drill weekend events, and more. Community Capacity building serves to educate military and civilian service providers, community members and military leaders so they can refer eligible service members and their families to our client. Additionally, these activities are a source to identify local resources that can be vetted for potential use by the call centers and other providers as additional assistance. These activities might include Joining Community Forces and other service provider meetings, briefing military leaders, and more. Direct support activities serve individual service or family members with a specific need by educating them about our clients resources and services available and/or referring them to other resources or may be a briefing or resource table for a small group of service members and their families.
Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Engages military service members and their families to educate them about our clients and other resources or services.
- Engages with community members, service providers and military leaders to identify and raise awareness of the needs of the military community and share resources and services to meet those needs.
- Identifies and vets local resources for possible inclusion in the community resource directory.
- Establishes and maintains relationships and implements strategies with providers and leaders within the state to maximize direct contact with service and family members.
- Measures & tracks activities and outcomes for reporting and identifies ways to ensure continuous growth and improvement.
- Delivers presentations, attends meetings, and distributes educational materials to service members, their families, community members, service providers and military leaders.
Qualifications:
- Requires BA/BS degree and at least 5 years of military experience either as a member of the military, a spouse, or a provider directly serving the military.
- Must have knowledge of all branches and components of the military.
- Requires exceptional networking and negotiation skills, strong public speaking/presentation skills, and previous consumer marketing and/or grassroots/community outreach experience.
- Intermediate level of proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required.
- Strongly prefer experience in SharePoint.
- 50% travel within the state is required, as well as frequent weekend and evening hours as necessary.
- Must be able to work independently and take a proactive approach to outreach.
