WSP is currently initiating a search for an A/E Technical Director for our Portland, ME office location. Be involved in projects with our Property and Buildings team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.
Provides technical leadership for both projects and overall multi-disciplinary team on a large variety of project @types for Federal, State and Industrial Clients. Works directly with Project Managers to drive project execution and delivery of technical components for assigned projects in accordance with WSP's core values and the level of project services agreed upon in the contract by WSP and the clients. Responsible for technical coordination of assigned projects, understanding and implementation of assigned project scope and technical requirements, and driving WSP's quality management process on projects. Ensures that processes are in place for design review and supports all design control activities for project key milestones and risks, as well as best practices for design and construction.
Your Impact
Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams of technical professionals to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects, working in conjunction with Project Managers to deliver the project(s) as defined in the scope of work and contract.
Work with Project Managers to establish the level of technical review required for the project; selecting appropriately qualified staff to perform the required discipline reviews, conducting overall project coordination reviews yourself, and confirming adherence to the QA/QC plan, as applicable.
Provide quality and coordination reviews for construction documents (drawings and specifications), reports, cost estimates, and other documents, as applicable.
Coordinate and assist the Project Manager with the technical aspects of contract negotiation, presentation, and meetings, as applicable.
Responsible for developing Project Quality Plans (QP), for the Project Manager.
Contributing role in the development of project proposals; scope definition, technical execution and risk management considerations.
Participate in project kick-off meetings with key stakeholders.
Understand project scope and contractual requirements in order to avoid scope creep and margin reduction and advise/ manage/ recognize the issue to affect change.
Attend site investigations and construction observations, as applicable. Provide organized and well-documented reporting.
Participate in project reviews with Project Manager, providing input about issues and potential solutions to leadership and other stakeholders.
Work with Project Managers on formal project closeout activities, along with conducting and documenting a lessons-learned meeting with key project staff.
Remain current in and implements practices of WSP Safety Health and Quality Management (HSEQ)System.
Remain current in design and construction industry best practices.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, or closely related discipline.
12+ years of relevant post education experience in a project delivery role within our industry.
Engineering or Architectural License required.
Advanced proficiency of project delivery process and the design principles, practices, and standard of care within the A/E/C industry.
Tactical lateral thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
Excellent leadership and interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally.
Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and adjusting readily to the changing prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
Competent with technical writing, office automation, relevant software, MS Office suite products (e.g., Word, Excel, Project, SharePoint, Teams), Bluebeam and general technology proficiency.
Demonstrated effectiveness at coordination and assertively directing teams to complete tasks competently and efficiently.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
