SHOP TECHNICIAN

Position Overview:

This position requires a skilled individual with experience using tools, equipment, and materials for the fabrication of orthotic devices alongside Certified Practitioners. This position also requires an individual with great attention to detail that will maintain a clean, organized, and safe lab area.

Purpose of Position:

The Orthotic Technician is an essential member of the AOPS team. The technician fabricates, maintains, and repairs orthotic devices according to prescription specifications. The technician works under the guidance of Certified Practitioners to produce outcomes that are of the highest quality and standards.

Essential Job Functions:

Fabricates according to fabrication work orders. This involves measuring, cutting, bending, grinding, heating, and bubble forming various materials including plastics, carbon fiber, leather, and foams. Knowledge, or willingness to learn, different types of glue, rivets, and other hardware necessary for fabrication is essential.
Fabricates using a sewing machine, infrared oven, vacuum forming jig, and alignment jigs.
Assembles of orthotic devices following manufacturers’ publications and using hand tools and torque wrenches.
Prepares molds for modification; pouring and working with plaster, or other material into mold to form or duplicate a cosmetic appliance. Has the knowledge to finish cast modifications by removing or adding material in order to meet written or verbal specifications.
Maintains and improves lab cleanliness, equipment, and hand tool organization.
Collaborates with vendors and clinic professionals with a friendly attitude.
Knowledge, or willingness to learn medical terminology, as it pertains to foot and ankle health.
Expected to assist in general building maintenance to ensure the facility is clean, safe, and meets ABC Accreditation Standards.
Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
