- Position Summary: The System Director, Medical Imaging Services executive is responsible for planning, organizing and directing the overall operation of the Medical Imaging Department including the Breast Center, CT Scanning, Diagnostic/Interventional Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound and MRI. Provides leadership for strategic planning, business development, and maintains daily operations for clinical and business operations for CMH Imaging.
- Activities will include developing and maintaining partnerships with key stakeholders and engaging teams through solicitation of input and plan implementation to provide and improve delivery of patient care, new program development, and value to the populations served.
- Ensures compliance with patient quality care standards for all age groups. Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in system CQI activities. Assures competency of all personnel. Formulates the budget and plans timeline for appropriate equipment replacement. Maintains efficient and effective department operation while requiring compliance with all Imaging accreditations, JC, CMS, state, federal and local. Abides by regulatory laws, standards and protocols while maintaining adherence to systems policies and guidelines.
- The System Director will reliably support the delivery of Imaging Services. This leader will be responsible for growth and process improvement through analyzing, evaluating, planning, implementing, and the development of programs and services.
- Essential Duties:
- Collaborates with clinical teams to develop and implement clinical improvements, engaging clinical teams in patient safety and performance improvement.
- Maintains knowledge related to clinical evidence through implementation and evaluation of clinical guidelines and through fostering research opportunities.
- Work with clinical system teams to evaluate and implement evidenced based guidelines and best practices that enhance patient care.
- Promote continuous performance improvement and clinical decision support systems that are data-driven and evidence-based.
- Serve as liaison between hospital administration, the medical staff, and the department managers.
- Works with JV Partners in a cohesive manner to develop and grow service lines.
- Leads and/or attends department, operations, and committee meetings.
- Perform periodic performance evaluations on management personnel having direct reporting relationships.
- Collaborates to develop and implement clinical and operational improvements, engaging teams in patient safety and performance improvement.
- Ensure that the infrastructure supports accreditations respective of imaging and the organization.
- Promote continuous performance improvement and clinical decision support systems that are data-driven and evidence-based.
- Maintains specific key performance indicators and to achieve financial performance objectives of the service through managing operating and capital budgets, managing patient utilization, and implementing cost management strategies.
- Coordinate the development of budgets based on anticipated volume, acuity, and matrix.
- Monitor budgetary indicators and recommend budget adjustments as appropriate.
- Provide input into pricing structures and assist in the development of pricing packages for contracting groups
- Maintains Clinical contract performance for any entity directly related to supporting imaging services and provides key performance metrics to quality services.
- Establish and maintain staffing models to effectively manage daily practice operations while exercising financial stewardship.
- Evaluate the cost and value competitiveness and market share of the service line.
- Demonstrate effective inspiration, servant leadership with all team members.
- Provide an environment that fosters teamwork, mentoring, coaching, and learning as measured by associate engagement.
- Lead collaboratively to assure success of the service.
- Establish service performance goals, allocate resources, and evaluate performance.
- Participate in local and regional educational programs related to Imaging Services.
- Participate and promote community outreach programs, events, and education.
- Maintain compliance with all regulatory agencies and the rules of Organizational and/or Imaging accrediting bodies by monitoring the service operations and its programs and initiating required changes or improvements.
- Engage all team members to achieve relevant professional standards.
- Work with the team on increasing patient satisfaction.
- Collaborates with physicians and providers to promote engagement.
- Planning, organizing and directing Imaging Service operations.
- Makes daily rounds in Imaging Services to judge effectiveness of operation, utilization of personnel and supplies, and general ethical and professional atmosphere.
- Monitors the physical facilities, equipment and supplies, which are required to carry out effective patient care and create an optimum physical environment.
- Carries on continuous quality analysis, evaluation and audit of Imaging Services.
- Initiates and actuates improved methods of imaging services and directs their implementation.
- Prepares department budgets for personnel, operating expenses and capital equipment. Responsible for fiscal operation of the various departments.
- Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff and administration.
- Interacts professionally with patient/family. Consults other departments, as appropriate, to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
- Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Directs and participates in the human resource management function for the department by coordinating the selection, promotion, orientation and performance appraisal processes.
- Coordinates the department’s in-service training.
- Promotes effective intradepartmental and interdepartmental relationships.
- Demonstrates ability to multitask. Is flexible, organized and functions well under stressful situations.
- Initiates, interprets and enforces Medical Imaging Services procedures and maintains Imaging policies and procedures.
- Cooperates in planning programs and safety and preparedness for fire and disaster.
- Attends and participates on administration directed hospital committees.
- Demonstrates responsibility for the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of performance improvement and CQI activities.
- Provides staff education with an emphasis on the organizational performance quality improvement program.
- Monitors preventive maintenance of equipment
- Interacts with all individuals in a consistent manner, providing attention, support, and assistance to foster an environment of exceptional personal service.
- Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
- Graduation from an AMA approved school of Radiologic or Imaging Technology.
- Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or like Imaging Society.
- Licensed by the State of Maine to practice and administer radiation.
- Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification optional.
- Preferred 5 years’ experience in Imaging Services administration or experience as an Imaging Supervisor/ Leader/Manager of a Medical Imaging Service.
- Active membership and participation in an Imaging professional organization (ASRT, AHRA, SIIMS, etc.).
- Experience in a complex healthcare environment.
- Knowledge or trained in Lean/Six Sigma.
- A successful track record of service, growth, quality, and financial performance.
