Summary:
The Director of the Surgical Services Team is a Registered Nurse who assumes the administrative responsibilities of all functions in the Operating Room, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, Ambulatory Surgical Unit, and Central Sterile Supply on a 24-hour basis at MaineHealth Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick and MaineHealth Lincoln Hospital in Damariscotta.
In addition, the Director assumes direct care duties and on-call duties as needed. She/he evaluates the quality of care rendered to all patients in the area; including the immediate pre-operative stage, the intra-operational stage and the immediate recovery stage. In addition, the Director will encourage and motivate team members to be creative and innovative, value the importance of the employee/customer relationship to realize positive outcomes, lead in the spirit of collaboration and self-discovery, and continuously communicate the importance of the Mission and Vision of MaineHealth.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Education: BSN preferred , Three to five years, related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- License/Certifications: Current State of Maine Professional Registered Nurse. Certified Nurse in Operating Room preferred. Current BLS certification.
- Experience: See "Education"
- Affiliation with Association of Operating Room Nurses required.
- Affiliation with Organization of Maine Nurse Executives recommended.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to management, public groups, employees, customers and/or boards of directors.
